Does anyone have any chicken entertainment ideas? My chickens are very happy all day long scratching in the yard, but as fall is setting in, the yard is turning into a mud patch. So I'm trying to think of alternative excitement for my girls.

Simple cheap entertainment for a muddy yard is piles of hay for them to scratch through. This will entertain them for a long time, & will help keep the mud down in your yard.

Most chicken entertainment revolves around food. Try hanging a cabbage just above their reach. Or filling a suet feeder with greens/veggies. Or make or buy a flock block.

I have built perches at different heights and locations that my birds love to sit on and nap in the shade or sun for hours on end.

I have bought the flock blocks before, but how do you make them and what good things do you put in them? I make suet blocks for the wild birds and I know they love that.

They also like to roost during the day, in another place that is not the dormitory. I've noticed that they seem very relaxed and pleased if they do that.

Enjoing the view.....

a nice pan of dry sand for dustbathing? Mine love to dust bathe. Ive read of people putting wood ash and diotomaceous earth in with the sand for a bit of spa treatment to boot.
