Hello everyone,
I have some beautiful laying hens. I love them very much, for the lay egg everyday.
One day, I bought some more hens and a rooster to add on my flock. I did not know that the rooster was sick, eye infection. He could not eat anything and died a few days after I bought him. A couple weeks later I found that some of my hens got the same kind of disease. One of my hen died last week.
Everyday I found one more hen had eye infection. I am very sad because half of my hens are sick now. I think the virus came from a sick rooster.
Anyone can help me?! I would appreciated if you show me how to treat them. I called the Vet, and they charge $65.00 for a visit + medicine.
Thank you very much for reading my email.
Peter

Sorry you are going through this

I'm attaching a link to some common chicken diseases. Maybe something there will help.
Can you descibe the eye infection? Post a pix?

Good luck

If you catch it early you can reverse it but once the eye swells shut its nearly impossable.
First isolate your sick chick and begin treatment right away.
I give 3/10ths a cc of Tylan orally for 3 days and teramycine ointment right in the eye.
If you can start treatment as soon as you see one bubble or a slight droopiness in the eye
you have a good chance to reverse the condition.
Good Luck!

Thank you for posting info on how to treat eye infections. I'm new to this and appreciate the advice. My second chicken just came down with symptoms.

I just discovered a hen with an eye swelled shut. Should we put her down? Her other eye seems to be fine, and the other chickens all look fine. I certainly don't want to infect the flock. Any suggestions? Thanks.
