One of my chicken has a really badly swollen eye infection with pus. I believe it might of have gotten into a fight with a much bigger one and had got her eye pecked. The other eye is completely fine.

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions here. I don't have very much resources. But I am thinking about trying to clean it out a bit with Qtips and maybe rinsing it with salt water or polysporin (antibiotic) eyedrops.

Would that make a difference or should I just separate her and let it dry out?

Peroxide would really clean it up good, but I'm not sure about putting that close to the eye. I would put some antibiotic ointment on it though. You can put that right in they eye. Just make sure there is no pain killer

Just curious. Why no pain killer? Also I saw someone in a video take the pus out with a tweezer and thinking of doing the same but this hen doesn't seem as calm so might be difficult.

Use saline to clean out the eye. First though, use a wet warm compress to soften the pus and secretions. You can use Q tips, tweezers, or even a manicure tool, and squeezing can help to get the pus out of the eye. Plain neosporin, polysporin, or similar ointment can be used twice a day into the eye. The choanal split inside the roof of the beak may be examined in case the pus is there, and you may be able to squeeze there as well if there is a sinus infection.

Respiratory diseases such as coryza and mycoplasma can also cause swelling and gunk in one eyes, so if you see any labored breathing, sneeze or cough, you may want to treat with an oral antibiotic such as Tylan 50.
