Chicken feed ratio per bird

I started out with PVC feeders and it go so bad the rats were killing chicks faster than I was hatching them. Rats have no problems feeding during the day. I was feeding about three times more feed than the chickens could eat on their own. Putting out just enough feed that they will consume in one setting lowers egg production and weight gain if you are feeding broilers.

Wow. That’s terrible! I don’t hate many things but rats too the short list.

What did you do to solve the problem?? It sounds like you had a good many chicks/chickens.

Well, I couldn't afford the Grandpa feeder so I started making rat proof chicken feeders. Do a search on this forum, you will find the thread where it all started and turned into a fairly large operation.
