chicken feet fear

Where might I find instructions for a hoop coop? My building skills are next to none, but I'll try anything once! thanks.

So would you suggest that I either go with no floor or with a wooden one? Searching for just the right coop is mind-blowing. My building skills are slim so I'm at the mercy of advertisers. That's why I so appreciate the honest folks who reply to this Forum. Thanks.

Go with a wooden or wire floor. The wire will prevent rodents from chewing through it. I would put wire than wood or plywood than something like linoleum to keep the wood dry and easier to clean.

You can buy a prefab house than do some simple augmentations to it. Chickens aren't too picky, but the need a lot of room to do chicken things outside.

Simply do a google search. Here's one to get you started. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/permanent-hoop-coop-guide You can make a HC with double if not triple the space, for far less than you would spend for one of those pre-fab's. The manufacturer states that they base their space needs on 4 s.f. in the run per bird. That is not enough space to allow birds to get away from each other, which will lead to aggression problems.

thanks for your feedback. I am seriously looking at the Urban Coop Company - model is the Roundtop Backyard Chicken Coop with attached run - seems like a good "sale" price and website says it will house 2-6 hens. I won't get more than 4. It has a 16 gauge wire under the roost. Website is urbancoopcompany.com

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I have 2 of the the urban coops. The floor on mine is 1/2 x 1 welded wire. Chickens don't seem to have any issues. They only sleep in there, and their run is grass clippings, pine straw and dirt. I am adding 1x8 poop boards this week because the poop situation is crazy. I have been scraping it out every other day, but it will be so much easier with poop boards.

I sort of wish I had built from scratch. But I got mine used and they were less expensive than the cost of new lumber.

Big enough for 2 to 3 adult hens. If you can assemble a prefab coop, you are most certainly able to build your own. A simple 4 foot by 4 foot box will suffice. Most hardware/lumber stores will do all the cuts for you. Check out the Coops section, many have detailed plans.

I have a smaller, discontinued version of the Round-Top Chicken Coop. I have 4 chickens. I treat the entire structure (including run extension... keep in mind I have a smaller version) as the coop by putting in the storm panels when needed, and have a much larger run surrounding the whole thing which the chickens spend the day in. Another poster was asking for feedback on the company so I wrote a few paragraphs.

I personally don't like wire floors for any animal so I would put bedding over the wire or even plywood, which you could scrape off on cleanup days.
