Chicken fluffs up and growls

Sometimes when I reach out to pet Holiday, my Buff Orpington, she fluffs up really big and growls at me! Other than that, she is completely normal! What could be wrong?

She doesn't like you!

Kidding...but really, she doesn't want to be petted! Or she perceives you reaching towards her as a threat. Either way, she is telling you to get out of her space!

Sounds like she might be thinking broody thoughts.

Hopefully she won't go broody on me!

My hens only growl when they are in broody mode. Hope you won't be dealing with that.

you got a full blown broody, if you don't want that get her off the nest and in a wire cage, for at least twice the number of day she been fluffing and growling at you

good then she's just about to start, get her off the ground in a wire floor till she stops, if your lucky she will realize its winter and wait till spring to try again, i've had 3 go broody in the last month

Thank you all for the helpful advice, she has not gone broody yet since she still walks around, but when she does I'll be sure to try and stop it
