Hi,

My daughter volunteered to foster 5 Dixie Rainbows for a community farm. There are 30 birds all together brooded by 6 different families. We have fallen in love with the birds, but they need to go to their new home on Monday to be reunited with the other 25 birds. My birds have spent a lot of time with us and are used to people. What should we expect for them to act like when introduced to the others on Monday?

There will probably be an initial confusion over their new surroundings, but as relatively young birds they will probably assimilate into the flock with few problems. Sounds as if it is time to start your own flock.

Oh no...you will need to start your own flock now. You will miss these birds so! Yes, Sourland is right, they will be confused at first, but will adapt eventually.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X3, sounds like you need your own flock, the birds will be confused but with so many new birds from different places the flock should sort itself out without much trouble.
 
We dropped off our 7 week old chicks to their new home. Only 21 birds were fostered, but two of the foster parents weren't prepared to raise their birds. Somehow their birds went missing or were killed by a predator. It makes me sick to think about the whole thing. Eleven very sweet birds (including our five birds) are living in a nice coop and fenced yard next to a community church in Round Hill,VA. They seem well adjusted and happy. I will go back tonight to put them in their new coop.
