I have heard stories of people abandoning roosters. Disgusting.

All one has to do is post "free rooster" on your local craigslist.org , so there is really no excuse. A lot of people out there have hens already, and want a rooster.

That's a Golden Laced Polish Crested, I believe. A good looking one, too. Someone out there wants him.

Well, he seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

Symptoms:

1: Lathargic
2: Heavy Breathing
3: Seems to not be able to talk
4: Wings being held away from body

Weds and Thurs he would make an odd squawk and was alert, looking around. Now he is breathing heavy, his wings aren't next to his body (almost like he is hot but my garage is 55degrees or so). He was friendly and didn't mind being held but did try to reposition himself frequently, but not today. He just sat there when being held.

I went and got some antibiotics and put that in his water, I can't tell if he has eaten as I just put a bowl in there, if he has eaten it isn't very much.

Any suggestions??

Edited to note pine shavings for bedding same as other chickens - no cedar...

Please see my post with advice on rehydration (last page) as your bird needs electrolytes ...
you might also think to use baby parrot handfeeding formula to get the needed nutrition in him if he is not eating. Is he congested? watery eyes or nares? You can also give four drops of POLYVISOL in beak. If more respiratory symptoms in next 36 hours then please post and I will repost the TYLAN treatment article for you. here is the thread with the rehydaration information (electrolytes):

He died while we went to look for the others....

the weather here has just been too rough(snow and cold). I doubt if there were any more that they had survived this long.

my daughters are saddened.... Thanks all for your help....

Oh I am so sorry. The others probably have not made it either. It's just too cold out there and who knows how long they have been out there! I wonder where they came from. It's not a common chicken to have around, especially up North where it's so cold.....
I hope the kids are ok.
