Chicken-friendly weed killers for our backyard patio?

I use vinegar to clean the coop occasionally, and the floor in my home; I can attest to its non-toxicity as I have several bird in my home.

Never thought about using it for weed killing, that I will have to try.

I have found that pouring boiling water kills most weeds even the root. Sometimes you will need to reapply. Can't get anymore non toxic than water.

Every time I can I dump the boiling water onto the weeds in the cracks of my pavement. Works like a charm, it's free, and there's no chance of hurting the chickens or any other creature that comes along (unless it happens to be living in with the grass, then it's sayonara bug-man).

My chickens never eat the dandelions and weeds??!!! Plus, don't pour vinegar everywhere! It kills grass too, I found out the hard way

We use straight white vinegar poured onto the weeds first thing in the morning. Kills them within 24-48hours. Give it a shot. It won't hurt the patio stones, your pets or chickens if they decide to eat on the weeds, unlike bleach or ammonia. It does however change the PH of the soil in the area treated. Do a test area to see if it will work on your type of weeds, the most you would be out is a couple of dollars for a gallon of vinegar from Wal-mart.

This is what I do and weeds haven't grown back in 3 months since white vinegar. I used soap white vinegar and salt. Better than the round up.my husband used

x2. In a gallon sprayer, I mix a gallon of vinegar, cup of salt, couple tablespoons of castile soap (helps the mixture adhere to plants), and 10 drops of orange essential oil. Worked like a charm on pesky Bermuda grass in the gravel surrounding our chicken coop and run (chickens couldn't care less about keeping the gravel cleaned up when the entire lush lawn is just a few steps beyond). I also second doing it when the hot sun will hit the area for at least a few hours after application; really helps with the effectiveness. I use regular household vinegar (low acidity, 3-7%), sometimes vinegar with a higher acidity is needed for really stubborn plants (20% acidity or higher), but regular vinegar is plentiful and cheap so starting there doesn't hurt.

Working great so far! That's after about a half day. More established weeds will need another dose, but very happy.
