I just have to vent a minute. My "sweet" girls have turned into witches! I wound up with a few roos (that are now in the freezer) and picked up 4 new hens that are the same age. They even came in the same shipment but were spilt between myself and a friend. Anyway, the original 7 hang together and the new 4 hang together. That's fine- but the gang of 7 bullies the others. It breaks my heart to see the newer 4 sitting in the coop on roosts because the witches are just outside the door. I let them out to free range during the day so I'm hoping the newbies are getting plenty to eat when the others are off roaming about. I don't have room for another coop/run and the one I have isn't big enough to be able to divide. I know the pecking order has to be established but I want everyone to just get along- or at the very least, quit bullying the new ones.

It will take them time but they will adjust and establish a pecking order. Sometimes it can take weeks or even a couple months. Just make sure the girls are getting food and attention from you and let them work it out. If it turns bloody, find the main bully and isolate her fanny. Then introduce her slowly back in and they will have established a new pecking order...she will find herself in the "being bullied" position.
