Mine love lettuces and greens... especially turnip greens. But tomatoes are by far their favorite.

What do ya all think about these foods?
    • I give mine oatmeal too, but mix cottage cheese with it!
    • Cracked corn will heat them up.
    • more meats since they are not out hunting this time of year. They lack meat proteins in the cold that the body needs. Poultry are omnivores. Free ranging chickens have over 50% meat in crops at night after a full day of hunting.
    • cook oatmeal & add berries that we saved from summer. The favorites seem to be raspberries. We also add lard from the butcher, gristle & junk meat as well.
    • .. 4 n 1 pig mash. Mix it sloppy w hot water. By the time I get to the feeding trough it has thickened a little, still warm and they love it. Side effects are: warms them up, increases egg production, and decreases molting time significantly.
    • Using scratch about an hour before dusk helps keep them warm and supports any late molters you may have. I had five molting in December (in MN!) and they all have full glossy feathers now. add crushed red pepper to their morning rations.
    • Oatmeal with yams
    • Corn and black oil sunflower seeds
    • pellet, grain mix and Timothy hay a long my rabbits
    • any whole grains or legumes. It's a great live source and ads digestable proteins, vitamins and minerals. Great way to increase the value of a current feed program (if your feeding whole grains and legumes)
    • any fruit, veggies, oatmeal. bird seed. i mix lard bird seed apples, oranges cabbage all together with a lil oatmeal. the lard is a fat burner for them
warm oatmeal with garlic and cayenne pepper in it. I added figs yesterday. They also get scratch to warm them up in the morning and before bed as well as regular layer feed.

I'm just planting a garden and anything that we don't eat will be given to the chickens! Anything they won't eat we will compost!
