First time chicken person here. In the past 11 days (the exact age of my chickens), I have managed to break every rule of chickening:
Newspaper
No heat lamp
Ice in the chick water
Fed an outside worm which led to
What I thought was a sign of 5 roosters with early onset enlarged cloacas
Once I discovered "pasty butt" bathed any little chick that dared to lay down in the event that the pastiness was back because...
I didn't know that baby chickens slept.
They have all miraculously survived in spite of me, much thanks to this board and other great students and mentors. Hopefully they are able to live long and prosper.
