We went out of town for a week and came home to fine one of our chickens pecked up pretty badly on the back of her head. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything that I should be doing for her.

Here's what I've done so far: Cleaned up the wound with hydrogen peroxide and then saline. (Pictures taken at this point.) Used some flour to stop some bleeding that had started up in the process. Then I used Neosporin quite liberally on the wound. I put up a quarantine pen and put her in there with food and water. I'm planning to get some Blu-Kote to put on the wound in a week or so once her head/neck is stable.

The part I'm most concerned about is the rip in her skin there. Do I need to do anything special for it? Stitches? Risking sounding stupid, would super glue work to close it up if need be?

There's also a long gash just underneath the top layer of feathers at the bottom of the main wound. I'm think that part will be just fine as it isn't too deep.

You are doing well. I would not use peroxide anymore, since it can delay healing. Vetericyn Wound Spray, although pricey, it easy to use on deep wounds. Plain neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment is good to use as well to keep the wound healing. BluKote is good one it is healing and scabbed over when she is about to be reintroduced to the flock. As long as flies are kept off of her, she could be around the flock in a dog crate with her own food, water, and shade. That way she won’t be lonely, stop eating, and everyone stays familiar with her. I don’t think there needs to be any stitching. Most chickens heal well from these type wounds. Feathers will grow back in time. Sometimes the others will peck those new feathers as they come in, and BluKote works well. Gentian Violet is also good, and found in first aid supplies in stores.

I'll see if I can get a hold of a dog crate. The pen is set up for her shares a fence with the run. She was sticking her head through the fence trying to get into the run and it looked like she was going to rip up her neck worse. She was panting so hard too, like she was super thirsty even though there was water right next to her. I let her back in with the other hens for now, thinking she'll be better off in there until I get a crate.
