Chicken got hit in head

Sorry about your pullet. The pictures are a bit blurry to see if her eye is just shut or if there is something one them. Chickens do have a third eyelid, also called the nictitating membrane which we seldom see, but it is for protection from dust and dirt when they are scratching around or dust bathing. Do you think her beak was cracked or injured? I would try mixing a cup of chick feed mixed with a lot of water and some egg, to see if she is interested. Bits of scrambled egg are usually popular. Baby food or canned cat food sometimes is good to get them interested in eating. You could also learn to tube feed her. Chickens can make some amazing recoveries, but we never know. It sometimes takes some time and supportive care to see how well they will recover. Plus, I would not put KY jelly into an eye. Saline, lubricant eye drops, or plain neosporin ointment would be okay.

Poor thing. The eyes just look closed with the bottom eyelid covering the eyes. There looks like some blood-tinged fluid from the eyes and the nostrils which might be due to a small skull or beak fracture, but that is just a guess. A vet would be the best bet. I would try to wash the eyes with a bit of saline. The plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment could be put into the eyes to help prevent infection. But since that might upset her, I would try to get some fluids and food into her first. Water with some electrolytes, SaveAChick, or Gatorade would all work.

Thank u again, hopefully I will be coming back with good news. I want to keep u all informed!

I have very sad bad news!! My poor baby chick, has died! But not due to those injury's. She was a fighter to the end! She was in her box, she didnt walk only stood a few times weakly. Will somehow she got a second wind and started flying and fell to her death! She broke her neck! Pretty sure she couldn't move her beck and with the fractures she was a mess. And I'm sure she was in pain. When something happens, there's always a reason. And I think that's why, her pain and her time to go! Thank u, I wish I had better news!

I'm sorry. We were all rooting for this little fighter. But I doubt she tried to "fly" and broke her neck. When a chicken's body stops, the wings flap violently, leading people to believe they are seeing a seizure or attempt by the chicken to revive. Sadly, this reflexive action signifies the end of the chicken's life, nothing more.

Thank u so much, I didn't know that. And I've been kicking myself, thinking I should of been there to catch her. I feel a little better but I still miss Little One!
