They should be spaced around two feet apart.

Unfortunately the coop space (not including the run which is a very large, open run) is only about 2 feet wide it has been built and would be hard to change. I don't have the ability to disassemble the roost.

Wow, that photo is disguising as I'd have never guessed that it was so small. It makes it look rather spacious.
