Chicken growls

So my 3 girls were spending the weekend running around the yard. suddenly they all froze and their eyes were huge and focused. One was steadily growling! I was looking all over to see what they spotted. It was out of my sight. But taller SO saw. They all noticed a garter snake nearby for the first time. I've seen videos of chickens beating up some snakes. But I've never seen them react first hand. And I don't think they've ever encountered one until that moment. It was an amazing thing to see! Just wanted to share.

The only time I've heard one of my chickens growl was at my little rooster.
I can totally relate.

I'm glad I had already read this thread a few days ago when I was out with my girls yesterday. I was sitting quietly with them and suddenly 'The Boss' (biggest/top of pecking order/thinks shes in charge) she froze and started making a growling sound...the other girls froze until she stopped about a minute later. I didnt see anything flying overhead or around to be scared of?
Interesting, I have never seen that before, but glad I knew it was normal from reading it here!
