One of my hens has died unexpectedly but I think I know why. She wasn't even a year old yet. I found her dead beneath the nesting boxes. I wasn't sure if maybe she died from falling or something else. About two days ago I noticed she wasn't moving a lot and her crop was a bit soft. I'm not sure what might have happened to her. What could I have done for her crop? Please help! Thanks in advanced!

Some illnesses can cause crop slowdown. Hens can die of many different ailments unexpectedly in the prime of life. Coccidiosis, worms, heart or liver ailments, crop or gizzard impaction, or egg binding are just some of the ailments. If you lose another, I would get a necropsy done by your state vet. Check on droppings and be on the lookout for anyone lethargic, not eating, or having diarrhea or blood in stools.
