Hi,

I'm new to this forum and a new chicken owner as well. Glad I found this site and forum!

Anyway, my pet chicken is acting weird. She used to be full of energy and would come running up to us now she seems "blah". She doesn't eat like she used to but she's still drinking water. (not as much as before though)

She seems to have diarrhea with some blood in it and she keeps shaking her head. She never used to do that. She just kinda stands around, isn't interested when we try to get her attention.

Before we'd wave anything at her eye level and she'd come running.

My dad was out building her new home outside so my parents let her roam around with another baby chick we just got and my mom said she saw her drinking from the little drip the AC has outside. My dad said that maybe that's why she's not feeling well and has these symptoms. The baby chick is fine though, don't think she drank any.

Has anyone experienced this before? Will she be okay on her own? Is there any medicine she needs to take, and if so, where can I get it?

Thank you for reading this!

Was she ever vaccinated for mareks? I wonder if the new chick was and bringing them together could made her susceptible to it. I now someone more knowlegable will be able to answer your question better than me.

I think so. We got her at the county fair back in March. She was just a baby then. They have this 4-H area and some local people sell animals. So I'm sure they'd have to be... right?

So you think the baby chick is making her sick? Because the baby doesn't have any symptoms and has tons of energy and is eating and drinking normally.

YOU ARE DEALING WITH ADULT COCCIDIOSIS
you need to buy corid amproylium or sulmet
I prefer corid if your feed store has it

here is how to give it to her

Buy some amproylium called corid and medicat for 7 days
if using sulmet you may want to put 1/2 pkg if red jello in each gallon of sulmet medicated water to get them to drink it

also I use the wet mash with sulmet or corid
2 tbsp of dry crumbles(chicken mash)
4 tbsp of water
1 tsp of sulmet add to the water

if using corid
2 tbsp of dry mash
4 tbsp of water
add 2 tbsp of corid to the water
feed 2 tsp per chicken for a feeding
feed this two mornings to get the medication in the birds
also at same time put the corid or sulmet in the drinking water for 7 days

speckled hen gives corid liquid in 3-4 tbsp per gallon of water
and after medicating give the following things

After medicating for coccidiosis ( you can't put any thing else but medication in the water when medicating )
I would put the whole flock on 2 tbsp of ACV to gallon of water and give them some feed with
3 tbsp of cayanne pepper to gallon of feed
as it will clean the body of the chicken well

I would get the chicken on a wet mash probiotic with vitE and Vit B complex and selenium

3 tbsp of dry crumbles
4 tbsp qt of milk any kind
1 tbsp of yoguart
and for each chicken in flock put in one 1000 mg of vit E cut end off and add to mix
1 vit B complex for each chick fed crushed and put in the wet mix
also a tablet crushed of selinium
mix good and
last add 1 tbsp of apple sauceon top
to get them eating the wet mash probiotic

feed this for several days twice a day
then once a week for life of chicken to restore gut flora in the medicated birds gut

ps THESE VITAMINS E,B COMPLEX, SELINIUM ARE FOR THE HEAD SHAKING AND NERVOUS SYSTEM
THE DIARRHEA ALSO IS CAUSED BY COCCIDIOSIS AND E.COLI WHICH THESE VITAMINS WILL HEAL
HOPEFULLY THE BIRD GETS BETTER
