I just went to check on them & not only has 1already zipped, but she has her cap off & is resting before she comes all of the way out! She is almost exactly 21 days to the hour. The second egg has started zipping also.

How long is it usually from the time they pip until they zip? Is there an average or expected length of time?

Good questions I was wondering about this!! Always seemed to me it was just hours, but my 2 that were pipped last night have had no progress. I can in one of them that the chick is breathing, the other I can't, doesn't mean it isn't I just can't see any movement with my limited view.

This morning 2 more that had pipped yesterday have now hatched & I have at least 9 others with pips. That gives me 4 that have hatched, 9 that have pips, 1 that is rocking and 5 that I haven't seen anything on them yet. They just reached 21 days last night at 11 pm, so I'm not worried yet.

Out of the 19 eggs that went into lockdown, 18 of them hatched! I float tested the last one today (coming up on day 24). It looks like only the air space was above water. I'm going to find that thread & reread it to see if that means it is bad, or iffy since it didn't sink completely.

my hen is sitting on 5 eggs 2 pipped, others are peeping- 2 in house hatched. these were 2 weeks in incubator last week under hen. I am taking babies as they hatch and have another 5 eggs to go under her for a couple more weeks.

I had 6 chicks hatch from my dark brown eggs!! All these chicks came from the same hen... which I thought was a BCM x BR....

peeps- 24 hrs later pip, could be another 24 hrs after outside pip before hatch and don't help no mater what- good luck!
