Similar thing happened a my local community farm/petting zoo. They keep chickens and a couple ducks. But somehow a wild duck ended up laying some eggs but then dissappearing. Probably lost or dead. The staff put the eggs under one of their broody's and the hen hatched them and looked after them as her own. She however panicked when they started to jump into water, and tried to rescue them!
