I have a two year old chicken that has been open mouth breaking a lot. I have been keeping an eye on it but I thought it was just the heat but today I noticed that she seems to be gasping for air. I felt her crop it didn't feel full to me but then again I don't know what a full crop would feel like. But her crop feels warm. He comb is still red and her stools are normal as far as I can tell she is still laying. Still not sure who is laying which eggs. But our number of eggs had stayed about the same. None of the other chickens seem to be having a problem. She wants to stay in the coop not out in the run with the rest of the flock. She has no nasal discharge.Any idea what could be going on? Thanks

She could have like a lung infection or something, try injecting her with Tylan 50, it will make her act even worse while the medicine is working, but it really helps

First, I would make sure that she is not suffering from the heat. Get her to take some fluids, and electrolytes, pedialyte or gatorade can be good. A flat pan of water to stand in and cool her legs would be good. Is she holding her wings out from her body? Wet, moldy, or dusty conditions, poor air circulation, or ammonia odors could be possible causes of breathing problems, or lead to respiratory diseases.

Thank you for your help we had just done our major seasonal cleaning (we clean regularly but do a mojor scrub everything and power wash once or twice a season) that seems to have helped her along with electrolytes and a cold pad for dog beds over in the corner of the run. Thank you again

I hope that she is better tomorrow. It can be stressful to clean out the coop. I have the same problems, since they always want to come inside when I am emptying bedding and cleaning.
