Chicken Health

Okay. The do eat the pellets regualaly also, But I will stop with the scratch. What do you think about the worms? Also what does the oyster shells do and how do you feed them those? I want to get more chickens but am concerned they will potentially get what these have. If they have something at all. How long would you say it takes to know if my chickens have mareks or something else before buying new chicks?

I have been having issues with my chickens living past 6-9 months. I have 3 chickens now that are approximately 5 months old and seem very healthy. My concern is one of thems breast feels non existent compared to the other two. I noticed this on one of my other chickens that died shortly after. Maybe this chicken is fine but if you have any thoughts or answers why this may be happening I would greatly appreciate it.

We live in south florida , bought them at a feed store, but my prior chickens were from a breeder i guess. we feed the scratch and dried worms every other day. We feed the layer pellets every day(stays in their feed bowl) I give the apple cider vinegar in their water. We let them roam every day for a couple hours minimum.

my other chickens that I got from the breeder all died, One I found in the coop the other was still alive but laying upside down. And then the last one which was kind of like a silky, feathers on her feet. Found her same way upside down. when I picked her up she just convulsed and then started doing back flips and died. I thought she may have been egg bound but dont know, When she died a bunch of fluid came out of her mouth.

Im hoping they didnt have a disease bc she may have spread it to the new chickens.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.
How are these current chickens you have right now?
Photos of the poop?

I agree to use an all flock/flock raiser feed and provide oyster shell free choice.
Oyster shell is used as a calcium supplement for laying pullets and hens. Put it in a separate dish in your run, they will take what they need.

If you lose another one getting a necropsy and testing will give you information. Contact your FL state lab (link below) to make arrangements.
Most state labs also offer services for testing of worms so you may want to consider sending a fecal sample to them to see if worms may be part of your problem.

Good except for my yellow one. But I found a ton of mites on her and under her wings yesterday. I’m thinking that could be the problem. I dusted her real good in DE and now I’m not seeing any on her.

If you found mites on her, I would suggest you use a Permethrin based poultry dust or spray to treat her and the other chickens. Clean out your housing and nesting boxes, treat all that and the roosting bars too. Repeat in 7-10days a couple of time.
I'm sorry but DE if not an effective treatment for an active infestation of external parasites.

You can find prepared sprays, concentrates that you mix yourself or dusting powder online and in feed stores like Tractor Supply.

DE is not something you need. If there are mites or lice, you will need a permethrin product, either the economical spray or the dust. I use the product below (about $8 a pint) and mix it 37 ml per gallon of water. Spray at 7 day intervals, and your coop will need treating, plus new bedding.

They look like feather mites. The feather mite is related to the red mite but a difference is feather mites will live on the fowl while red mites only go on the fowl to feed.
Permethrin will kill them, DE won't.
Edit. Just seen the scale to your hand. A bit big for feather mites so not sure.
