Chicken huddle!

our 9-10 week old chickens go in the coop in their own at night, and there are no other chickens. they always look scared and huddle in a pile. one of them tries to go between the others legs all the time. why do they do this?

I have 3 that are 12/13 week(ish) and they did the same until recently. they seem to be settling out of it now and less panicky at bedtime. No idea why they do it, but I think it's super adorable.

Mine are 18 weeks now, but did that all the time around that age. They don’t anymore, but I always thought it was related to pecking order. They were originally in a TSC coop I purchased, and although there was plenty of room for the four of them at that age, they always seemed to want to all be on one end of the roosting bar. I always said it reminded me of my siblings and I fighting over the window seat back in the day.
