Chicken in the road

day 2 out chilling with girls. so far so good. scratching and running around all day. still has to learn how to take a bath.lol.

Another problem, is I found it very difficult to keep with the laying flock. They just out eat, everything else. I have an old coop/run, not real big, but I have put a dozen Cornish crosses in it, and done well.

The best thing to remember is a good life, a quick end. They do make good eating, I think you could help a family out that does eat meat.

What do they say, 'no good deed goes unpunished."

Apparently a chicken truck dropped a white chicken in the divider of a 4 lane highway. I jumped out and got it, brought it home and put it in a small coop. This is day five. Its not friendly, seems healthy. When can i introduce to the others. thanks
I would put it in a small pen and put it outside your chicken run for a least a few hours a day so your other chickens can see it but not get to it. After a week or two, you can introduce. Watch it to make sure that they don't start ganging up on her. She's probably not friendly due to the total lack of human interaction and the fact that she fell out on the highway.

30 day quarantine perhaps. If it is a cornish rock meat bird, they can't be allowed to free feed or they will crush under their own weight.
We have had ones rescued from the Brooklyn Jewish sacrifice ritual who lived 4-5 years. They absolutely cannot eat with "normal" chickens.

Take most peoples advise, give it to someone to be butchered. It is meant for the market, and will grow too fast, injuring its legs and eventually having a heart attach. I've gown Cornish cross, and it was important to butcher them before they got too big. Br kind to her and do what she was born to do, feed people chicken meals.

Oh dear me, I know(?) you are hoping this will be different. That this will work for you long term. Do be prepared to be able to put her down, when she can't walk. If you don't think you could put a suffering animal out of misery, and a lot of people can't. Have a solution for that at hand. Know someone who can come quickly when needed.

It would be better to move her on now. Watching something suffering is misery. One cannot change the genetics of this bird.
