This Speckled Sussex pullet has something going on with her neck. I looked her over very well, no mites or other critters. She is eating, hasn't lost weight. I don't know if one of the roosters tore her up or if this is some sort of disease. Please help

Roosters can injure the back of the neck or head while attempting to mate. I would separate her in a dog crate with food and water, but keep her with the other chickens. Watch the rooster for more rough treatment, and he may need to be isolated. Clean the wound with saline or Hibiclens (chlorhexidene) and water. Apply some plain antibiotic ointment twice a day.

Thanks for the response. I have been cleaning an applying ointment, and I felt like she was improving. But today, it appears to have spread and gotten worse. So I'm not convinced it's a rooster injury, though it may be. At any rate, I think I will follow your advice and isolate the rooster for a few weeks. I have a separate pen and coop he can stay in for a bit. And a fee of the other hens are looking pretty ratty from feather loss, courtesy of Tucker.

She also may need to be separated for a few days, in case the other hens are pecking at her scabs or red skin. That is best done in a wire dog crate with food and water, but keep her with her flock, since she needs to stay part of the pecking order.
