Chicken interested in nesting boxes

My 18 week old BR out of the blue goes into nesting box 2 times in 15 minutes while free ranging. This has not happened before. I am wondering when we should expect eggs from her. She has not squatted yet. Thanks!

Interest in the nesting box is one of the signs, along with a redder comb, and of course, the squatting you mentioned, that a hen is about ready to begin laying eggs!

I think my Barred Rock too a bit longer, like maybe 20 weeks to start laying, but truly, it could be anytime for you!

I remember checking the nest boxes and finding that first brown egg....It was like Christmas! And then, I bought some EEs, and finding that first sea foam green egg was just like Christmas too! LOL

You could expect eggs from your hen very soon. Once she begins squatting, you check the nest boxes often!
