Just be sure to throw all eggs away for at least 2 weeks after using sulmet or antibiotics...denaguard has no withdrawal time.
Chickens will just lay there if you cover their heads with a dishcloth...as long as you are calm and sure, they will be fine...no real pain as opposed to the pain of not being able to breathe...
I find that they will lay still for even surgery, if you cover their heads. I find often that when Im doing somethign like bumblefoot cleaning on a bad case, that the bird falls asleep!
But I use bactine...and if youre worried about the shot, just spray it with Bactine in the area first....but I find that unless its a duck (which are very much more sensitive than chickens painwise) the Bactine is more for its germicidal role and also my own feeling that I am somehow hurting the chicken.
