My 9 month old Isa Brown is missing lots of back fathers and is now bleeding a little bit where she is bald. She is in a coup with 5 other hens(3 barred rocks, 2 Isa browns). Should I separate her and let her heal? I think she was bullied but now she’s doing it to herself. Does a chicken “saddle” actually work and protect her?

A chicken saddle works. What are you feeding them? She sounds stressed or lacking in a nutrient. You can put her in a dog crate in the coop so she can see but not touch the other chickens. The feathers won't grow back until the next most but a saddle might give it a break from the picking. They are fairly easy to make if you can sew. I've seen no sew felt ones too.

Yep. Definitely separate her. The other chickens will peck at the bleeding wound and make it worse.

Yes, the saddles work. I suspect she is being feather pecked. You might want to try to determine why. Are they crowded? Is there enough protein in their feed? Are they bored?
Also, see if this one is being bullied from feed. Does her breast muscle feel as strong ad the others?
Tske care, as this can progress quickly and turn to cannibalism. Do you have a safe way of keeping her with the flock until you can get or make her a saddle, like a small dog crate or pet carrier?

An update: She has a hen saddle on along with some hen healer. I believe she was picking out her own fathers due to lack of protein. Not sure how to get her more protein though.

Feather fixer feed has more protein. Chick starter/grower has more protein. Flock raiser too. Then just offer oyster shells on the side.
