Hey, y'all. So, my hen Miss Blue is a 3yo ISA Brown. About a month ago she had an impacted crop. We fixed that and she went back out after a few days. Then she got a sour crop. We fixed that and she went back out after a few days. The next day, my husband saw her laying on the ground in the chicken yard with our rooster standing on top of her. We brought her inside. She's not impacted, she's not sour, she doesn't have water belly, there's no egg stuck anywhere inside. I've tried warm baths, used Recovery 911, gave Corid for 7 days, then vitamins for the last 3, but she's still not well. She won't drink much and she's not eating no matter what I try to give her. I let her roam the house and she mostly walks around for a few min, then sleeping standing up, over and over. I am at the end of my whits and not sure what else can be done or if she's maybe just slowly passing, and if so, should I help her go? I'm so scared to help her go bc what if I just haven't found what's wrong yet? I have no idea what to do. She is an ISA Brown and I know they don't have long lives, but I love my feathered babies so much. Thank you in advance!!

Have you checked her over for mites and lice? Look right at the skin around the vent, under the wings, base of neck, and around the tail. You mentioned there's no stuck egg and you've done warm soaks. It probably wouldn't hurt to give her a 300mg calcium citrate with D3 once a day, for up to a week. This will help expel any material that could possibly be caught in there.

Aside from that, it's possible she's just in rough shape. Impacted crop, then sour crop... poor thing. My knowledge is pretty limited though, so I'm tagging a few educators that I see around for more input.

Hope you're able to get her back on her feet soon. I love my girls too, and it's so hard to see them unwell.

I'm so sorry about Miss Blue. Being bred for egg production, usually by age 2 they can start suffering from calcium deficiencies and reproductive issues.

You could try giving her 300 mg Calcium Citrate + D3 once a day for a week. You can give that to her whole. Just open her beak and pop it in. See if that helps anything. If not, you could try an antibiotic but generally once they've got the ailment, that's only going to maybe prolong life a few months. But that's only if she has one, and we don't know that for a fact. It's just common with the breed.
