Chicken is showing aggression towards me

Hi, my chicken named Norman has been doing this dance towards all family members. He puts one wing down and does a fast side walk towards us. I’m told it’s to show dominance. He recently started showing aggression towards me and goes out of his way to get to me to attack me. I feel he might get worse about it. Do roosters typically start to show aggression for no reason? Should I be worried?

I’m also told they can pick up on fear. I am uncomfortable and afraid he’ll attack me again, so that’s probably why he will come at me.

I feel I can’t even go outside to do things anymore and would like to stop him or get rid of him. What is the best way to deal with this situation?

How old is Norman! Have you been injured? Do you have small children out there?
Some cockerels and adult roosters are polite around humans, and some are not, and only sometimes can this situation be fixed. How about more details here?

Is this the only rooster/cockerel you have? Sounds like he's decided he's dominant over you, and your fear is feeding into that.

Some folks will advise you to try retraining him, which is fine, but given that you're afraid of him I don't know how successful you'll be.

Personally I'd rehome him (with full disclosure of his aggression) or make him into dinner.

If you dont want to get rid of him or kill him keep a chicken stick by your back door for when you go out. If he comes at you give him a good whack. Keep your chicken stick with you while you do your thing in your yard. I did this before i made a large fenced area for the chickens so they cant destroy my garden. Works great.

No. Just no.

Speak his language. Dominate him. Beating him teaches him that you might hurt his hens and he will redouble his efforts. Also, if you don’t have your stick, it doesn’t work.

Your issue is you’re acting afraid of him. Why? Think about it, you’re 10 times his size. If you wanted to, you could stomp him and end his existence.

So, really, why the fear? You’re the elephant. He’s the mouse. An elephant doesn’t fear the mouse.

Another thing to remember: his testosterone raises when the sun is on the horizon (morning and night.) Train him in other parts of the day (you want him to succeed.).

I‘ve always been able to tame a rooster. One who was particularly obnoxious is now my house pet, and nice as can be.

That dance is mating dance. The only thing with that is the next thing he will probably do is fly towards your family members in an attempt to mount them. I think he is also zeroing in on you because he can sense your fear, so since he is a youngster he will probably try to challenge you first thinking he will be successful since you are already giving off the fear vibe.

Every rooster I've ever had started randomly showing aggression about when their tail feathers finished growing in. We've just stopped getting them. That's just from personal experience though, I know people who have roosters that they carry around the yard with them.
