The cockeral pulled a joke on my son and I.
We came home and all the chickens came running to see if we had anything.
One of the cockerals was running extremely weirdly, like someone had a hand on his back and was pushing him towards the ground.
I immediately thought the bird might have been injured by a hawk while we were away. I sent the son to catch it and got a cage ready to isolate it while we took a look.
The son comments, "the bird is really dirty"
We put it in the cage. It shook itself and TONS of dirt and wood mulch came flying out of the feathers. He then stood up and walked normally.
Apparently we had interuppted his dust bath IN MY FLOWER BED (!) and he was either too weighed down with dirt or too dizzy and light-headed to walk normally.
Nice joke to play on the silly, chicken-protection-paranoid people.
