We are getting chickens for the first time in late August. We will have around 25 Cornish cross for meat birds (short term), and 10 Dominique's for egg layers (long term). I have seen some people suggest making a journal of everything we do. Is there anything in particular that we need to make sure and get down on paper? What do you put in your journal? Do you even have one? We want to be responsible owners, and learn as much as we can as we go along, and keep good records. Thanks for the replies!

yes, I have a journal for chickens. I write down tips, dangers, and odd things happening to my chickens in it. I also write about sicknesses and how to avoid them. They are all things that i think I need to know later.
You can write anything you want in it including what I said. put in what you think are important facts or just write about your chickens.

I keep a detailed spreadsheet for my layers.
Daily egg count, egg sales, supplies purchased, hatching records, harvest records, running population list with notes on individual birds, notes on all kinds of things both in spreadsheet and a Word doc.
Both files have been amended many times.
You might browse or post in the Meat Birds forum for what meat growers record.
