Hi All,

Unfortunately one of my chickens just died quickly and abruptly. We are still unsure of the cause of death, but think it may be some sort of disease. Would it be wise to remove the litter and scrub down the coop to prevent an sort of disease transfer? Please let me know what you all have done when a chicken suddenly has died in your coop.

Yes to all. Always better to be safe rather than sorry under the circumstances.

I am sorry about your hen, it's hard to deal with. My sympathy to you.

But to keep the others healthy is a priority now. Remove the bedding as far away as possible, possibly burn it. Then scrub everything with a cup of bleach to a gallon of water- roosts, walls, nest boxes, walls, floors, food and water dishes - everything. Let dry and air thoroughly. You will have to be a bit innovative, since it's so cold there. Then put in fresh bedding, food and water. It's a pain, but it's what I feel is necessary- I hate doing it, but I do.

Good luck, let us know if you find out what happened to your hen. I'm sure I have missed something, so read all the posts.

Even under such circumstances, I still want to say Hello,

! Hope we can all help you!
