Chicken Keeper for 12 years but feeling a bit our of the water

My name is Karin. I am 47 and live in Texas. I just recently got silkies for my daughter and those babies are so gentle and petite...I am looking for a different approach than the free range with the goats we have done for the last ten years with our other chickens.
So I am back to get ideas on how to keep our fluffies safe...

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We had chickens at home in Germany where I grew up but I got chickens again about 12 years ago here in Texas.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 10 'real' chickens and 3 silkies

(3) What breeds do you have?
Brahma, BR, EE, Maran, Silkies

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
That they are not as destructive as the evil goats

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hiking, Climbing, Fitness, Kayaking, Glass working, Reading

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am divorced mom of 2, self employed business owner. We got horses, goats, cats, dogs, etc

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I think I was active on here 12 years ago but don't remember what email or ID I used and haven't posted in at least a decade
 
Hello, and welcome! Glad that you joined! Good luck with your flock! Silkies are a smaller chicken breed so if you have them outside you need to have them in a completely predator-proof coop and pen. I think that the smaller a chicken is, the more likely that it would be the first one's to be taken.
