Chicken kicked off roost?

I have 6 hens, about 7 months old, and 5 of them roost every night. One sleeps on the floor of the coop? Should I be concerned about this? It is possible the others kicked her off of the roost but it gets cold here in winter and I am concerned that she needs their body heat. She is the heaviest out of all of them (a jersey giant) so I guess it could be that she can’t fly up to the roost like the others but I just don’t know what to do because I’m afraid she will freeze to death in a few months!

She wont freeze to death because she will produce her own body heat. Try putting her on the roost and see what happens. She may have trouble getting up to it for many reasons... coop size or it high, maybe a ramp would help.

It’s possible your hens don’t have enough room on the roosts, They need a lot of space on the roosts, so maybe they are kicking this one off because there isn’t room?

She may not have enough space to make her jump & landing onto the roost. I have a standard frizzle, one of my larger hens, who simply cannot manage to get herself onto the top roost if the majority of the flock has already roosted. She simply cant see enough space to get her bulk up & settled without crashing to the floor. When I get time I am going to redo my roosts so they are all @ the same, but lower, height in a U shape.

Show us your coop, inside and out.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

Where are you located? What kind of weather are you talking about? What does your coop look like? Is she healthy? We really need to know what are you working with to be able to give an honest answer and maybe make suggestions.

In general I don't care where mine sleep as long as it is not the nests and is predator-safe. Unless you are looking at something really different in weather or coop I'd not be concerned about her freezing to death. If your ventilation is bad I might be concerned about frostbite.
