I'm really sorry about your hen. It's such a shame when people don't control their dogs. Have you talked to the neighbor? If the fence is one of those invisible electric fences, I hope that the neighbor realizes that they are very ineffective for dogs with a high prey drive. Document the losses. Even if you have spoken to them, send them a polite letter asking for damages. Keep a copy of the letter and a copy of any check that pay you with. Keep it as evidence in case there are future problems. Remember, there are almost always future problems with dogs that like to roam and kill. It will be back at its first opportunity.

called sheriff's office--it is not unlawful to shoot a dog that is attacking you or your livestock---the sheriff wanted me to call animal control----animal control went to talk to the neighbor to write a citation---the neighbor said it was his daughter's dog and will never be back on his property and mine!!!!!!!! ONE VICTORY!!!!! the neighbor said he would pay for our loss........What should we charge him for the mental distress???? (wish I could charge him for that).............At least I won't worry about the pit digging into our coop and getting the flock.....
