I love my chickens, but I also love my cat- and my cat shows love back in his own way, and not just for food like my chickens do- however I am not in a position where I rely on my chickens for a living, they are just slightly more useful and productive pets than my cat or dog. But in my opinion- just mine- my cat is much friendlier and more loving than my chickens ever have been, so yes he is a bit more special to me than my girls.

Blackbird I Seriously doubt anyone likes to see their pets get killed, come on, what an immature thing to say, but you did mention you are young.
You prob have grown up not being terribly attached to a cat or dog, I Adore mine and the thought of shooting a cat is out of the question. If you have ever had one that you loved I think you would feel different, but I can tell by your wording they are Just an animal, no big deal.

hehe, I love my chickens more than anything in the world

They are my support team. When I have a bad day, It's off to the coop to cuddle my Buddy Boy XD

Yes, people are just raised different ways and have different beliefs on things but my stand is that killing any of God's creatures has to have a very good reason behind it. And no, I don't believe walking through the yard and looking in the direction of the coop is a good excuse.
You really can't blame the kids on here that idolize their daddies because they are good with a gun and kill things. That kind of power excites them. It's the nature of many boys, from what I can tell.
Luckily, regardless of the kill vs not-kill crowd, the OP is going to give the cat the benefit of the doubt and try to rehabilitate him.
Thank the Lord for that.

ok, now your the one being immature. I am talking about stray animals, not your stupid Chihuahua. I will do anything to keep my chickens safe cause they mean the world to me...

Although the wording was a bit harsh, I agree - just because someone can/will shoot cats/dogs doesn't mean they don't like cats or dogs. My husband love love loves dogs. That's actually WHY he shoots the feral ones that come onto the farm. The feral ones WILL kill his dogs. WILL kill his horses. WILL kill his cattle. And if he calls the council they'll laugh and go, "Why don't you just shoot the thing then?"

The cat in the OP does not look feral and I would probably not shoot that cat. I'm talking bones and skin hissy spitting beat up things that have obviously never had a home nor never will. I have lots of cats. I love cats. A cat in that condition will never be a 'cat', it will just be a murderer.

Why are they always presumed guilty?

Why is it not an innocent possum or boar?

Innocent until proven they have killed something, and even then.....they were just doing what nature intended. I do support a farmer or anyone protecting what is theirs if there is truly a threat. A opossum or wandering cat I don't immediately consider a threat. I have no idea what I'd do if a boar showed up, however.

I do like a little bacon with my eggs though. Bacon is a good excuse and that boar did look kind of guilty.
