My 1.5 year old barred rock laid/pooped out something that looked almost like an organ. Pictures included at the end of this are not for the faint of heart. She was acting egg bound all day, and finally she passed whatever this is. Can anyone shed some light on what she passed so that I know the proper course of action? I read a little bit about lash egg but this seems bloodier and less formed than the pictures I saw.

Some background is that she had a bad infection about a month ago and was treated with antibiotics from the vet. They think it was EYP because her belly was distended. She has since perked back up and the swelling went back down. She has layed one hard shell egg right after anti biotic treatment and a soft shell egg about 2 weeks ago. She goes to the egg box most days but doesn’t lay anything. We thought maybe she was going through a soft molt since she was losing some feathers pretty regularly, but not enough to be super noticeable. Any help is appreciated!

Can you cut the material open so we can see the inside?

It does look like lash material (Salpingitis).

What antibiotic did the vet prescribe?

I'd be inclined to give her Extra Calcium for a week. You can find Calcium Citrate with D3 in the vitamin aisle of stores like Walmart, CVS, etc. Give 1 tablet daily, just pull down on her wattles, pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow.

Thank you for the help! I’ll include a picture after I cut the larger masses. Does the inside help indicate if it’s lash eggs?

For the EYP, she was prescribed Clavamox and Rimadyl (carprofen).

We have been giving her some extra supplemental calcium +D3 every other day or so for about a week prior to this potential lash egg being laid. I can continue with the supplements if it will help.

Yes, it does look like lash egg (Salpingitis).

The antibiotic may be helping her expel some of the material. Giving the calcium is a good idea, this helps with contractions and hopefully if there's more material she'll be able to pass it on out.

She may have EYP and/or Salpingitis - this may be what the Vet is/was feeling, the swelling in the abdomen. Sometimes lash material is dropped into the abdomen instead of traveling through the oviduct, similar to internal laying.

Since you do have Vet care, you may want to make contact with them and at least send some photos of the material, get their opinion.

Your hen has perked up which is good, sometimes they do for a good while and can lay some normal eggs as well.
