Chicken laying eggs and yellow discharge

if she is not eating her oyster shells i would crush up some calcium pills and mix it with her food that's what I do when my hens lay a soft-shelled egg

The thing is this happens a lot. So much so that I have calcium syrup that I give her I don’t think it’s got anything to do with calcium. I broke the egg she layed today it had a blood spot so I’m going to take her to a vet when they open again. Quite worrying she’s my favourite bird 😓

Human calcium tablets that also contain D3 would be good to use, 1/2 tablet daily. These might help if it is a calcium deficiency.

Thank you, I really appreciate this. I’m about to go out to the store, her condition has gotten worse. She went back to her run, tail down and just laying pecking at crumbles I put out for her. She doesn’t seem to want pellets or large items. Will try bathing her outside now that I have another pair of hand.

I have a hen with similar problems. She is around three now but her whole life she has had issues and now it seems like she is better. I gave her broken up Tums pretty frequently, seemed to help. I would also give her warm Epsom salt baths about once a week. Her belly was really swollen and I also treated her with antibiotics. She is much better now and lays really nice eggs and the swelling in her belly is gone.

My hen is getting a lot worse she became unresponsive within the last hour I called the animal emergency and told them again what happened they said she might have egg yolk peritonitis. They said that I have to pay $550 upfront or they won’t do anything and I don’t have any savings left. I’ve secluded her I’m going to try my best to save her but not looking good right now

Sorry about your hen being worse. There is not a whole lote that can be done when they are having reproductive problems. I would make her comfortable and keep her warm. No more baths, especially if she is outside. I would feed her things she likes with some protein. My sick birds would eat chick feed made wet with water and a spoonful of yogurt, tuna or salmon, or canned cat food. I would continue to give the calcium hidden in her food.
