Hi all. My 6 month old EE started laying weird eggs recently.

Her eggs normally look like

3 Days ago she laid an 1 egg with a shell-less egg. She has done that twice within the last 10 days.

Since she laid the egg/shell-less egg 3 days ago, she has not laid another egg. She is not acting as social. Yesterday I caught her vomiting water.
Thinking she was egg bound I put her in a warm bath....but, we live in the San Diego beach area so it's usually sunny and 70degrees. Yesterday was 92 degrees. I didn't leave her in the warm bath for long (ten minutes). I also checked her vent (which is moving like she is trying to lay) but I didn't feel an egg (I only checked about 1 1/2 inches before she totally freaked). I did give her calcium by dropper but still no go.

Today I have seen her eat again. But she is still kinda meh and still no egg and her vent is still flexing. I know it's hot but my other girls aren't acting like her and they are still laying with no problems.

Any help or suggestions for a next step would be greatly appreciated!!!

ps: Feed changed about a month ago from Nutrena Organic to Scratch and Peck GMO free soy free corn free and they free feed oyster shell. Thanks all!

Thank you! Much appreciated

How long has she been laying?
Is that first egg pic a hard shell covered with membrane or a soft shell?

What does her crop feel like?
Do they free range?

Hi aart. Thanks for the questions.

She has been laying for 3 months exactly. Just having problems within the past month or so.

The first egg picture is a hard egg shell with a hard calcium like membrane. Her regular eggs have a hefty shell.

Her crop feels normal...smaller during the day and full at night as we stuff them (scratch, spinach, black sunflower seeds and occasionally mealworms) before their bedtime.

They free range all day in an enclosed citified backyard (half concrete / half yard or what used to be grass, plant pots, etc).

Thanks again for any help!

Well the problem started when you changed feed...so maybe that feed doesn't suit her?
The vent can pulse even when they are not getting ready to lay.
She may be trying to pass another softie.

You don't have to wait if you don't want to. You can just pick up some of what you were feeding and mix the last of the new kind in with it so the change is a little more gradual.

Thanks! They have about 2 weeks left of the 'new' feed. Tomorrow I'm going to buy the 'old' feed and mix them. Hopefully she'll start laying again soon!
Thing is....it didn't effect the other birds.
So it could just be her particular metabolism doesn't work with that feed?
Or could just be an anomaly in her genetics, an illness, or ...???
Just a wild guesses....tough problem to solve.

I wouldn't mix the feed, you won't be able to tell if it is the feed unless it's 'pure'.
I'd wait until current feed is gone, then the new bag will be fresher.
Or isolate her and just feed her the new bag for quicker results in the 'experiment'.

Good point, aart! I didn't even think about that! Glad you got my back when I stick my foot in my mouth!
