Chicken laying soft shelled egg

It might sound like a lot but it isn't. My eggs have never been "hard" to crack. They are perfect. The oyster shells is only enough to cover lightly over the food. When it mixes it becomes a perfect blend. I buy a 25lb bag of organic food and a 5lb bag of oyster shells and probably don't even use half the bag. I'm good. Thanks for the concern. My girls are very healthy and happy.

I get the DuMOR Poultry Layer Organic feed. But seriously I am not adding that much oyster shell. I stopped buying the already made chicken scratch. My chickens wouldn't eat the corn. So now they get nuts, berry's, barley, oatmeal and all kinds of natural ingredients that I also mix myself together. No more wasting corn or anything else they won't eat. I did a lot of ready and preparing before I ever invested in my girls. I was well prepared for them and their nutritional needs. So now to get back to the original discussion for the person looking to figure out why their eggs are the way they are. It was just what I do.....

The OP stated that they feed their chickens 16% Dumor layer feed. It already has calcium (3.8-4.8%) in it. No need for oyster shell on the side.
