chicken limping wobbly and keeps beak open

Hi,

This afternoon, I noticed that one of my hens (a gem sapphire, less than a year old) was wobbly and kept its beak wide open most of the time. There was no sneezing, no gasping, just wide open. My three other hens looked fine (one was broody, but that was a regular broodyiness). The chickens were vaccinated for Marek.
There is some black spots on the comb and ear of the hen, but no more than usual. We have a pecker and there is always few wounds that usually disappear when the pecker is removed (usually broody jail).
It was also very hot today, so the open beak did not worry me that much until I saw the wobbliness/ limping.

Can you post photos of her, her black spots/injuries and her poop?

Is she drinking?

When was her last egg?

I'd work on hydration, if you have electrolytes, those would be good to give. If not, give her a homemade solution of 1 cup water with 1teaspoon sugar, 1 pinch of table salt and 1 pinch of baking soda mixed in.

she is laying, I found one from her this morning. I did not see her going to the water today but she was by the feeder. I haven't seen her poop today.
I will start the electrolyte tomorrow.

It was very hot in my area and recently a similar thing happened. So it happened a couple thursdays ago when it reached the 100s and my delaware had gotten a heat stroke. She started hopping on one leg and was hyper ventilating. We immediately started to soak her in water and made sure she was fresh. The next day she was back to normal. If that's not the case. The black scabs could be fowl pox. They start off as black scabs but shaped as a bump and not indented in the comb. Then they slowly turn into white warts with a lot of black scabs. But that wouldn't cause limping.You could also give her electrolytes in her water to help her with the heat or boosters. Hope you foundd this helpful.

The bird seems.better this morning after a cool.night. The mouth is now close but she is still unsteady/limping. I still saw no sign of bumbelfoot.
Gave her electrlyte water and wet food. Here are pix of the injury. The one on the comb are consistent with my head pecker. The one on the ears are new.

Do you see any lice or mites on her?

Both ears have injury/scabs, is there a discharge or any pus inside the ears? Can you look inside the ears?

Photos of her legs and feet?

Since she's doing a little better, I'd continue to work on hydration and see if she will eat for you.

I'd also give her 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily along with a small amount of egg. Being off balance can be due to a number of things - from trauma, to disease, to deficiency and everything in between.

As for the scabs on the comb, those look like normal picking/pecking injury.

Thank you.. no lice or mice (looked around the eyes , under the wings, by the vent) .
Both ears have the same scabs. No pus or discharge.

Poop is normal, feet look neat and clean..

I'd apply a dab of triple antibiotic ointment on the earlobes and start her of the vitamin therapy.

See that she's drinking and eating well.

Hi, Following up on my chicken... it took about 4 week for her to go back to a stage I was comfortable putting her back full time in the coop. I used the Vit E , B complex and some electrolytes...
The panting and keeping the beak open were the first ones to resolve. It took two good weeks for it to be completely resolved.

The brown spots on the ears never went away; they are still there. There is no swelling or discharge from the ears, so I'm not sure what to do or if those brown spots matters.

The not walking on her left foot is still there. She went from using her stomp to be able to walk with a limp. it took 3 good weeks for her to be able to turn without stumbling. I gradually put her back with the other ( few hours and then the whole day but separated at night). She is still limping... but can go with her daily life...
