Chicken Little

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock! :welcomeBYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry. There is always space for members on the BYC roost! :highfive:
I have deep sympathy for your loss! :hugsI bet it was tough. If egg production isn't important to you when choosing a breed, I would recommend Buff Orpingtons, Easter eggers or Plymouth Rocks. I have never experienced any bossy behavior with any of them either.

Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

So sorry for your loss :hugs

As you plan your coop and run, remember 1/2" hardware cloth, held down with screws and fender washers are your best defense against predators, add a little hot wire and even better.

Hello, and welcome! If you get chick's, they usually come as un-sexed. Sometime's they say that the chicks are pullet's, but as they grow turn out to be boy's. If you want to avoid that trouble and make sure that you won't end up with any boy's, I would get them at point of lay. That way you will know that they are really ladies.
Thanks for the info. No boys wanted although would love to rankle my neighbor with a very loud rooster.

When I say I am a newbie, I am referring to raising chickens as a hobby. I paid my way through private school by caring for thousands of layers in the school's egg producing "factory". Hated cage and wire-birds who never touched the ground upset me greatly. I guess I want to make amends with my own humanely treated flock.
