Chicken loss

I had 2 chickens each 6 weeks old, one was killed yesterday by a raccoon. What should I do for the other one?

Are you able to prevent the raccoon from coming back to kill the remaining one?

Welcome. Bring the other one into the house and then make sure run and coop has secure hardware cloth including hardware cloth aprons around the perimeter and a ceiling that is secure. Then get another chick for your chicken. Or rehome the chicken you have to a good home.

yes, I secured my coop with more chicken wire as well as set up motion activated lights

Chicken wire isn't good enough for raccoons.

Welcome to BYC! Hardware cloth is definitely much safer than chicken wire. Chicken wire is super thin and flimsy. It works to keep chickens in, but it's not any good at keeping predators out. I'm sorry about the raccoon.

You definitely need to have a predator proof coop and run for your chickens. Chicken wire is absolutely not predator-proof.
