Hi everyone,
so this morning i went into the coop to find my black silkie just sitting in the nest. she has been doing this for a few days now and is starting to worry me. So i picked he up, found an egg in the nest, and put her down near some scratch i had just put out to see if she would get more energy. But for a few minutes she just stayed huddled there and didn't move. So i picked her up again and inspected her to see if there was anything unusual going on and sure enough when i flipped her over her breast had lost all its feathers. Is this very bad for the chicken. What should i do about it? How can this be stopped?

thanks for any help!

Sounds like she has gone broody, very common in Silkies. She probably pulled the breast feathers to line her nest.

Need to break the broodiness, if you can, or get her some fertile eggs to set, and let her hatch them. Can also buy a chick or two and slip them under her at night for her to raise.
