Chicken lounging?

@Elyrian1 Might have to go on a Google research session because I'm sure someone, somewhere has studied this. My only point is that while many people provide supplement lighting during the winter to help keep egg production up, they usually say a 40 watt bulb in the coop is sufficient. Just made me wonder if an actual sun lamp would be a better choice for lighting in the winter. A 40 watt bulb is not going to help with vitamin absorption but a sun lamp would.

Depends on the light. My experience with growing plants in my fish tank is that certain lights give off certain PAR (if I recall correctly, it's been a year since I reviewed this stuff) ratings. (It's super complicated and hurts my brain) but that other lights don't. PAR is the prime measurement used to indicate a light's effect on a living thing, as opposed to lumens, watts, amps, etc. That's why LED's have to be a certain kind of LED, incandescents work across the board but put off a lot of heat, certain flouresecent lights work, certain halogen bulbs even... but all have to fall with the specs put off by the sun to be effective on living things whether plants or animals.

EDIT: In summary, yes, a 40 watt incandescent should put off the right kind of light to prolong egg-laying.

I think it's precious when they do that. That tells me that I'm doing my job to give them a comfortable/safe life when they lounge around like that.
