Chicken lying down with eyes closed.. lots of saliva in her mouth.. please help

Have you added any new chickens to your flock within the last 30days?

Offer her some BVitamins - you can crush a human B-Complex vitamin and add it to her food. Extra protein like egg or tuna is usually well received. Try to keep her drinking.

It's hard to know what's going on. From your earlier description, I do agree with Barbara @rebrascora it sounds like she may have EYP. They can hide it well.

Curled toes/leg weakness could be vitamin deficiency, neurological, a repro disorder or latent disease that has presented later in life - there's just no way to tell.

Now that you mention it, I added 3 chickens to my flock a couple of weeks ago from a friend of a friend that couldn't look after them anymore, bringing us from 5 to 8 chickens. The new chickens are all above the ill chicken in the pecking order, and shortly after we got them she started acting slightly weird.

I still doubt EYP though, her belly is not hugely bloated and her poop isn't yellow and eggy, as well as her laying an egg yesterday. I currently have a chicken with EYP who is on medication and it is quite different.

Thank you, would electrolytes help at all? Honestly I don't really know what they do but I've heard a lot about them on here.

No illness in the new birds at all, or any of my other chickens for that matter, however I am pretty sure they did bring mites over so I am still in the process of getting rid of them. I wouldn't be surprised if it did have something to do with the new ones though.. do you think it's possible that they pecked her on her head and gave her a concussion or slight brain damage?

Another update, she has almost fully regained her walking ability. I gave her an early night last night and this morning she is not anywhere near as wobbly, although she can't quite walk or run full speed yet. Her poop is still runny, though I was assuming it's just from the epsom salts, and it also has little particles in which sort of looks like parts of undigested sunflower seeds or little bits of food maybe? I tried to put her back in with the others this morning but they were picking on her a bit so I'm going to wait till she's stronger and maybe reintegrate her this evening.

FOR ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS THE SAME SYMPTOMS: I am confident what is keeping her alive for this long is when I made sure I got her out of the run as soon as possible after noticing she was ill and dipped her beak in water for a while to keep her hydrated, as well as separating her and giving her lots of rest. I am sure the epsom salts also helped a lot if she had eaten something that poisoned her.
