Hi! So my RIR hen is making some sounds that are troubling me. She is the only one in this flock that is making the sound. It sounds like a weird high pitched squeak. (?)
I will try and see it I can post a video or something so you can hear but she is in the process of laying an egg right now.
I looked her over and her eyes dont look swollen and there is no mucus coming out of her nose. Ive been googling and coming up empty. Do you guys have any idea what this could be? Any idea how to fix it? I am going to keep a close eye on her today but from what I know she is still eating and drinking. (I will update if I notice this to be false)

I noticed this about a week ago. But not as bad. It was one of those "well that was a weird sound" and went about my day. I am new to chicken owning so this might have been my own ignorant mistake! She is not gasping for air either like a lot of videos have been showing on youtube. I will be on here constantly today to update and reply!

Thanks in advance for anyones help in this matter!

Is it her first time laying an egg? I'm not a professional or anything, but she might just be singing her egg song. Chickens can make really weird noises sometimes, I have a 4 month old RIR hen who screams for no reason. My advice it just to watch over her and make sure she's still eating and drinking. Best of luck. :)

Sneezing, maybe?

The second sneeze is a little louder, but sometimes my girls get corn stuck up their nose and it makes them sneeze. She eating/drinking okay?

I will update on the eating and drinking today cause I am going to stay outside with them most the day today.
The sound i heard earlier last week sounded like the second one! So it might be sneezing.
I went into the coop today and I smell a slight ammonia smell in there. So ill be cleaning that out today. Would this be a cause of something? All other chickens are fine. They are doing their normal chicken daily duties.

Yeah shes been laying for about a month or so now. I will have to make sure shes eating and drinking today. From what I know she is but I havent paid special attention to them. And shes been active from what i know.

Guys! I think shes just broody! I never heard this sound before! But she is still in the nest box making raptor sounds at me. What should I do? We got rid of our rooster 2.5 weeks ago. This is her first year laying. Im in ky. Should i let her try and hatch them? Would that be okay?

Still fertile, huh? How many eggs does she have? There's a slim possibility that one or 2 may still be fertile, so if you want, you could let her try. It's really up to you though on what you want to do. If you want her to be un-broody, try separating her from the rest of the flock, or drunk her belly in ice cold water and that should do it. You should also take away her eggs. Is she yelling at you and how often is she in the nest box? If she's there almost all the time, she's probably gone broody, and if she's making strange noises like "go away", or "leave me alone", then she's probably broody. Let me know what happens, and make sure she gets some food and water, because usually when they go broody they rarely leave the nest.

Okay so neat update. She went out of the nest yesterday and didnt go back. So I kept my eye on her and she was fine. This morning she back in there with her broody behaivor. So im wondering if this is normal? Its like she changed her mind and then decided to try again. If she stays in there most the day im gonna make her a little secluded spot in the coop for her (away from the other hens).
I hope she stays broody! I want chicks so bad lol
