Hi everyone. Long time lurker, first time posting. Thanks for all your help.

One of our 6 chickens started making a weird hiccuping & long clucking sound this weekend. Then stopped, for two days then started again today.

Here’s a video of the hiccups.
I couldn’t get a video of the longer sound she sometimes makes after these sounds, but it would be almost comical if she didn’t look so uncomfortable - it’s like the sound a cartoon chicken would make when it lays an egg by surprise, a long baaakkk and she stretches her neck out.

She’s 7 months old. She’s laying great, eating and drinking normal. She doesn’t seem to be coughing, wheezing, sneezing, or doing the head shaking thing. If it helps, she recently started having an issue of messy feathers on her backside, but still seems to be pooping comfortably and her droppings are well normal (I read the infamous poop page).

Anyway I can’t find any info on this particular weird sound, so I’m appealing to greater minds.

Thanks!!!!

That is a sneeze or snick. It is sometimes normal if they have just eaten or there is dust, but if they do it every few minutes for most of the day, it could be infectious bronchitis, a common respiratory disease caused by a virus. It tends to spread through a flock. Welcome to BYC.

Yep. My chickens do it all the time.

My chicken is doing this same thing. It started Wednesday evening. She has like "spells". She will do it and then be fine for most of the day or hours on end. Eating and drinking fine...poop is fine. I have been treating her with VetRx on her beak, under her chin, and wing..and electrolytes in her water. Please update on what the outcome was for your girl! This is our first illness or weird occurrence. Some have said to treat with Tylan. She is already isolated because she is recovering from an over zealous rooster, but she is ready to go back out to her flock.
