Just joined and I love this site. I have become chicken obsessed. I started 8 months ago with red and black sex linked. Unfortunately the neighbors dog got one of my red sex links. This was my fault because I did not keep her wings trimmed. Now I have 5 French black copper Marans chicks and 2 beautiful 5 month old black Americauna hens. My sex links are not afraid of me in the least and if I bend over to do something they will come over and pull my hair or pull my pant leg to beg for treats. The Americaunas are very shy and skittish hopefully they will calm down and start laying soon. The Marans are only 5 weeks old and right now live in a large dog kennel in the den until they are old enough to handle the cold outside and protect themselves from the older hens. Trying to resist getting more chickens. I think 10 may even be to many. I have a large enough coop and let them free range the yard which is only 1/3 of an acre.
